Mel Brooks is bringing The Producers, one of the most honored musicals in the history of the American theater, to the motion picture screen as a sparkling, feature-length musical comedy. The record-breaking Tony Award-winning hit (based on Mel Brooks\' seminal 1968 motion picture comedy) received 15 nominations and won a record-breaking 12 awards, including Best Musical, Best Director and Choreographer, and Best Actor. Two-time Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and ...more
The stage is set for a riotous tale when Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) and Matthew Broderick (The Stepford Wives) reprise their Tony Award-winning roles in The Producers - available on DVD May 16 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment with the suggested retail price of $29.98.
The side-splitting story of a pair of Broadway producers who hatch a seemingly can’t-miss scheme, features an unforgettable supporting cast including Uma Thurman (Kill Bill: Vols. 1 & 2, Pulp Fiction) and Will Ferrell (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Old School, Kicking & Screaming). Directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, the Tony Award-winning director and choreographer of the original Broadway production, The Producers DVD includes more of the musical numbers, wacky repartee and high-energy fun that made it a record-breaking stage play. Written by comedy legend Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles) and Thomas Meehan (Annie), with music and lyrics by Brooks, the DVD will include over 30 minutes of additional footage consisting of never-before-seen musical numbers and outtakes.
The Producers tells the hilarious tale of Max Bialystock (Nathan Lane) and Leo Bloom (Matthew Broderick), Broadway’s most inept producers who entice investors with a scheme that’s literally too good to be true. But when “Springtime for Hitler,” an unbelievably tasteless musical ode to the Third Reich, becomes a comedy sensation, the jig is up for the would-be conmen.
The Producers bonus features include:
Deleted Scenes – Includes a musical number, “King of Broadway,” not seen in the theatrical film
Outtakes – Features actors Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell
Analysis of a Scene: I Wanna Be a Producer – This feature includes a never-before-seen extended version of the musical number "I Wanna Be A Producer" with exclusive behind the scenes footage of rehearsals and production.
Feature Commentary with Director Susan Stroman
