Point Pleasant – The Complete Season comes to DVD in the UK

By M&C News Jan 25, 2006, 20:48 GMT

Point Pleasant – The Complete Series has arrived on DVD in the UK collecting the entire 13 episodes and a “making of” featurette on a three-disc DVD set.

The series, which has been available in the US since October, 2005, enjoys a strong cult following, and takes its place among other supernatural dramas like Roswell and True Calling.

It follows the story of Christina (Elisabeth Harnois) after she is discovered alone and lost on the beach in Point Pleasant by lifeguard Jesse Parker (Sam Page), and is taken to the home of Dr. Ben Kramer (Richard Burgi) - whose family eventually takes the girl in. Christina has come to town in search of clues to her past, and to the mother she never knew, who was a native of Point Pleasant.

As Christina learns of her supernatural origins, tensions among the townspeople mount, and it becomes clear that the newcomer has powers she doesn't know how to control. Jesse finds himself drawn to her, while his girlfriend, Paula (Cameron Richardson), grows ever more jealous and Jesse's best friend, Terry (Brent Weber), further complicates matters with his secret feelings for Paula. The arrival of Lucas Boyd (Melrose Place) reveals further intimations of secrets kept, including those of Ben Kramer himself.

The series blended aspects of other hit shows such as Dawson Creek and Desperate Housewives with elements of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and managed to build a loyal fan base despite being canceled by Fox TV in 2005 – after only eight episodes. With the DVD set, fans of the show can now enjoy the five episodes that never made it to the air.

The show also had a combination of classic horror elements – like church glass breaking and strange attacks by the local animal and insect wildlife – with more “soap opera” elements of teenage love and secret family troubles that might make it not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is worth giving a shot.

Point Pleasant - The Complete Series is available at Amazon and AmazonUK. Visit the DVD’s database for more information.
