Two classic canine movies, Old Yeller and its sequel Save Sam, come to DVD Nov. 15th thanks to the Old Yeller Two Movie Collection from Walt Disney Home Entertainment. The DVD will also come with several bonus features including the animated short “Bone Trouble” and a tour of the Disney Archives.
In Old Yeller, a friendly stray dog finds his way to the frontier home of Jim Coates (played by Fess Parker from Davy Crockett) and proves to be a fiercely loyal pet by saving the boys from danger. When Old Yeller’s own life is gravely threatened, the entire Coates family must pull together in a test of their love. The movie is a classic and perfect for the entire family.
Savage Sam continues the story with returning cast members Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran. It introduces Old Yeller’s son Savage Sam. When Travis (Kirk) and Arliss (Corcoran) are kidnapped, it is up to Sam to follow their trail and save the day. The film also stars screen legend Brian Keith.
The DVD, which features two disc, will have a suggested retail of $29.99 and will come with a special audio commentary: Old Yeller Reunion with Kirk, Parker, Corcoran, and Bob Weatherwax.
The DVD set will also feature “Old Yeller: Remembering a Classic;” conversations with Kirk; Lost Treasures: “Ranch of the Golden Oak;” “Dogs!” featurette; and a 1957 Disney Studio Album Audio Excerpt.
