DVD - What Doesn't Kill You [Blu-ray]
Brian (Mark Ruffalo) and Paulie (Academy Award® nominee Ethan Hawke, Best Actor In a Supporting Role for Training Day, 2001) are two lifelong friends who grew up like brothers on the gritty streets of south Boston.
They started early as street thugs living by the criminal code, doing petty crimes and misdemeanors that grew increasingly more serious. Eventually they fall under the sway of organized crime boss Pat Kelly (Brian Goodman).
As Brian becomes increasingly lost in a haze of drugs and 'jobs,' he consistently disappoints his loyal wife (Amanda Peet) and their two sons. Torn between the desire to be a good husband and the lure of easy money, Brian must make the hardest choice of his life.

Of course this will be a comment that will be seen as biased but here goes anyway.....Full disclosure, my name is Vic Clay and I played Stavos in the movie. Even if I was not in it, I would recommend this film wholeheartedly to anyone that would listen. It is a based on fact story with intense, powerful performances and strongly moody cinematography that really connects to and helps drive the story. Even though the characters depicted are mostly criminals, this movie sends an incredibly strong message of hope. It is a message that a lot of people, in these rough times could derive a lot of solace from. It has so much powerful emotional content coupled with a dose of action that it is one of those rare films that a couple could rent and both enjoy simultaneously on different levels for different reasons. The direction is so well done that it is hard to believe how new to it director Brian Goodman, who also plays Pat Kelly the crime boss, is. For actors, watching the performances of Ethan Hawke and Mark Ruffalo becomes a clinic. Amanda Peete rocks it too. My bud, Jay Giannone almost steals some scenes from them and I have gotten great response for my own work in it too. Summing up, if you want a movie that is entertaining but still has substance and will leave you feeling great and feeling like you can do anything you set your mind to, just rent 'What Doesn't Kill You' now and tell your friends.
