This Seagal movie is his best straight to DVD effort. I won't pick it apart like the critics do; as if it is supposed to look like it came from Spielberg or Ridely Scott. This is no 'Saving Private Ryan' or 'Gladiator'.
That being said, this is a very good movie. It has a simple straightfoward plot; revenge. There are none of the CIA doublecrosses found in some of Seagal's latest efforts. There is also no voice overs; Seagal does all his own lines.
Seagals acting was pretty good. His character is certainly not the usual good guy. He is a man possessed by grief and regret, out to kill the murderer of his police officer son. Seagal uses more profanity in this movie than all his others combined.
Eddie Griffin was believable as a psychopathic drug kingpin.....actually surprising since his background is in comedy. Lots of street savy diolog and some humor from him.
As far as Seagal goes, people love to break his stones because he may not be as slim as he was in 1990. WTF! He is 57 years old, cut him a break. I think most people are somewhat heavier at 57 then at 40. He looks to be in decent condition in this one, and the martial arts are the best I have seen in quite some time. Seriously, the fights in this movie are vintage Seagal with no stunt double. His Aikido was prominant along with some nice Shotokan Karate kicks (he has a black belt in this art as well). Tough, gritty, believable fighting. A real nice job.
Great fights, great pistol and assault rifle work, a Chrysler 300 in a car chase. Alot of well done action.
with a full Warner Brothers budget behind this, it would have been an instant classic...a truly great movie. But as it is, it is a very good action flick.

Just saw Urban Justice. Seagal has acting talent after all! The action is non-stop and vey well done. Eddie Griffith was the best he's ever been. he female lead was weak, though. Window dressing. oo bad. She seemed well suited to the role. Poor script here. Enjoed this picture.
