DVD - Across the Universe (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Across the Universe, from director Julie Taymor, is a revolutionary rock musical that re-imagines America in the turbulent late-1960s, a time when battle lines were being drawn at home and abroad. When young dockworker Jude (Jim Sturgess) leaves Liverpool to find his estranged father in America, he is swept up by the waves of change that are re-shaping the nation.
Jude falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), a rich but sheltered American girl who joins the growing anti-war movement in New York's Greenwich Village. As the body count in Vietnam rises, political tensions at home spiral out of control and the star-crossed lovers find themselves in a psychedelic world gone mad. With a cameo by Bono, Across the Universe is "the kind of movie you watch again, like listening to a favorite album." (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times)

Dude! This happened with mine too! Plays on the computer but not our Samsung dvd player. That's complete bullocks! I mean we returned it to Best Buy thinking it was a faulty disc but it wasn't...since the second one didn't work either. Then we took it back and they tried it there and it worked on the DVD players so they said to try and reconfigure it so we shall see. This is loopy! I was all stoked about watching the film again!!!
Across the Universe did not play on my dvd player either. After trying 4 different copies I've given up - Blockbuster refused to give me my money back and would not give me a credit for a different movie. I could only get another copy of Across the Universe from them. They claimed they had never heard of my problem but obviously I'm not the only one with it. They are ripping people off by not returning their money.
Across the Universe DVD would not play in my Philips DVD player/recorder (previews did play), but it did work in my old el-cheapo APEX DVD player - and it copies just fine onto the recording DVD!
Here's what I did, which WORKED!
On your DVD player (with the disk out of the player), add parental control at level 7. This WORKED!
Andrea is correct. Inexplicably the Sony disci would not play on a DVD player that had the parental controls turned off. The DVD player would literally shut down whe 'Across the Universe' DVD's were inserted, and I had to force the drawer to retrieve the DVD's. As Andrea posted, I turned the parental controls on, set it to the highest level, which was 8 on my player, and the DVD's played perfectly.

Doesn't work on all players!Feb 11th, 2008 - 04:10:31
A friend bought the deluxe 2-Disc edition of Across the Universe and his player won't play it. It works on my computer, but his player rejects the disc. In an email reply, Sony said that it can't guarantee that all their DVDs will play in all players. If they're going to mess with the format, then they shouldn't be allowed to call it a 'DVD'!
