Duchess Kate gives shamrocks to the Irish guards (VIDEO)

The Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton, bestowed the green to the Irish Guards, today, March 17 in Aldershot, Hampshire.

CNN reported that this was the Duchess’ first solo military engagement, and the moment has received world-wide interest.

Kate reportedly wore a dark green coat with a gold shamrock-shaped brooch that once belonged to the Queen Mother.

This event is a tradition with the royals, and the Duchess presented sprigs of shamrock to members of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards in Aldershot, Hampshire and even their mascot, Irish wolfhound Conmeal, reportedly got in his photo opportunities too with the Duchess.

CNN reports that this tradition was carried out by the “Queen Mum”, Prince William’s late great-grandmother, then to his aunt Princess Anne, and now his wife Kate.
