Columbia University’s School of Journalism announced today that Doubt has won this year’s Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was nominated alongside Sarah Ruhl’s The Clean House and Will Eno’s Thom Pain (based on nothing).
The prize is awarded to “a distinguished play by an American author, preferably original in its source and dealing with American life.”
Doubt opened Off-Broadway on November 23rd and just recently on March 31st on Broadway, receiving glowing reviews each time.
In Doubt, a strong-minded woman is faced with a difficult decision: Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she’s not entirely certain of the truth? Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, it makes for very potent theatre, to be sure.
