The Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer are scheduled to headline a tribute concert at Virginia Tech in September. The concert is being held to remember the 32 people killed on the campus by a student gunman in April.
Other performers expected to take the stage include Nas and country musician Phil Vassar.
The tribute concert is scheduled for Sept. 6th at the university’s Lane Stadium. The cost of the concert will be covered from corporate sponsorships and merchandising sold during the event.
Dave Matthews Band drummer Carter Beauford has stated: “We have a profound respect for the incredible resolve and unwavering sense of hope the university community has shown and are honored to have the opportunity to share this evening with Virginia Tech.”
The school’s president Charles Steger has stated: “We’re extremely grateful for the compassion and generosity of these artists who wished to create a very special event where our students, faculty and staff can come together to celebrate the spirit and resiliency of our university community as we begin a new academic year.”
The school has also planned a dedication ceremony on Aug. 19th for an on-campus monument to the victims of the shooting.Note the date on this article may be incorrect due to importing it from our old system.
