Shawn Colvin releases concert album and M&C’s giving away five copies

Nonesuch Records has released ‘Shawn Colvin Live’ and M&C’s giving away five copies. The album captures Grammy Award–winning singer/songwriter/guitarist Shawn Colvin’s live set recorded in 2008 during a special three-night solo engagement at San Francisco’s famous jazz club, Yoshi’s.

The album includes twelve songs written or co-written by Colvin, as well as covers of songs by Robbie Robertson, Gnarls Barkley, and the Talking Heads. The record was co-produced by Colvin and longtime collaborator John Leventhal.

Colvin has been praised by audiences and critics for her live performances since the beginning of her career. The Lexington Herald Leader said of a recent concert, “Who knew? After establishing herself as one of the pre-eminent folk/pop performers of the ‘90s, we discovered last night that Shawn Colvin is, at heart, an escape artist. For the better part of a very attractive 95-minute solo acoustic performance, the multi-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter offered music of departure—of fleeing old times, old towns and old flames.

As the performance progressed, the vocal and emotive fragility that defined her early recordings eased off in favor of tunes that displayed a darker but more assured sense of drama.”

This summer, Colvin continues to tour—along with label mate Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, and Buddy Miller—as The Three Girls and their Buddy, with some solo dates along the way. Colvin also returns to Yoshi’s in the fall for a four-night engagement, following last year’s sold-out run at which this recording was made (details on reverse).

A three-time Grammy–winner, Shawn Colvin has released eight albums to date, including the platinum ‘A Few Small Repairs’ which featured the hit song “Sunny Came Home.” Colvin's songs have been included on many motion picture soundtracks and she has also made appearances in films, on television, and on the stage.

Colvin’s most recent album, ‘These Four Walls,’ (Nonesuch, 2006), was lauded by People magazine as “the most self-assured album of her career” and called “one for the ages” by the Washington Post.

The Austin-American Statesman called it “an exquisite portrait of strength and vulnerability.” She recently signed a deal with Harper Collins Publishers to write a memoir, which will be an extension of the intimate, personal, and often hilarious stories that she weaves into her live concerts.
