Raquel Welch Biography
Raquel Welch is an American actress and a screen icon of the 20th Century.
Welch was born Jo Rachel Tejada on September 5th, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother was American and her father from Bolivia.
From an early age she was keen to perform and studied ballet up until she was 17. However, when that did not work out she decided to try for acting and took classes at San Diego College.
The screen siren managed to get some minor roles in TV series Bewitched and several others. In 1965 Welch starred in the movie A Swingin’ Summer and soon she had a contract with 20th Century Fox.
This indirectly led to perhaps her most famous image, from the remake of the movie One Million Years B.C. in 1966. Fox had lent Welch to UK studio Hammer and when Welch appeared in a fur bikini she became an instant sex symbol.
In the 1970’s she played ‘lust’ in Bedazzled and soon Playboy named her as the most desired woman of the decade.
Later movie acting roles include The Three Musketeers and Legally Blonde. Welch has also had guest appearances on US TV shows Seinfeld and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
The sultry star has been married four times, taking her name from her firs husband James Welch, and ending her marriage to her last, Richard Palmer, in 2008. She has two children, Damon and Latanne, who were born in 1959 and 1961 respectively.
