Catherine Hardwicke to direct ‘New Moon’?

Once an Art Director and Production Designer (Three Kings) Catherine Hardwicke made a big splash directing the critically acclaimed “Lords of Dogtown.”

Catherne took the Directing Award at the 2003 Sundance Festival for “Thirteen.”  Now, she has cemented herself as a big league director with the runaway success of “Twilight.”

Hardwicke is in talks to direct “New Moon,” the greenlit sequel of the Stephenie Meyer “Twilight” literary franchise.

Appearing on USA Today this past Wednesday, Hardwicke was evasive about her return to the series.

“I’ve got this to say about Taylor,” she said when asked about her future plans for Taylor Launter, who will likely see more screen time as Jacob the werewolf in “New Moon.”

“He told me the other day that he had gained 14 pounds since I last saw him. He’s only 16. I think he’s chanting to make himself grow.”

Summit Entertainment signed off on the next movie in the “Twilight” saga over the weekend and the “New Moon” script is completed.

The Chicago Sun-Times, stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will earn $12 million each for “New Moon”, up from the $2 million they earned for “Twilight.”
