The Enchantment Emporium by Tanya Huff
I loved this book – it is really enchanting, mischievous and lively, a wonderful fantasy creation.
Alysha Gale is twenty four, unemployed and tired of her family meddling in her life. Her job at a museum has just folded and she is in desperate need of work. Then a letter arrives from her grandmother leaving her a junk shop at the far end of Canada. Alysha jumps at the chance and flies off to take over. Yet nothing is quite as it seems. Which is no surprise, given that the Gales possess all kinds of magical talents. Trouble is brewing. Dragons are circling the town, and a sorcerer is wrecking havoc – and that is only the beginning. Something in her shop is attracting attention; not to mention Alysha’s own magical talents. And what of the mysterious Graham – is he friend or foe? Even bringing in the talents of the ‘aunties’ may not be enough to save the day. And what of Alysha’s brother – will he turn into a stag or a sorcerer?
This is a book where gentle humour is mixed with innovative urban fantasy; a touch of romance plus fascinating characters, which really grip your attention from day one.
It is one of the best fantasy books I have read for a long time and I can really recommend it. Entertaining, fun and interesting; it offers something for everyone. More, more please!
