After the destruction of The Heart, a sinister creature that gave the Drood family their power at a terrible cost, field agent Eddie Drood is now the family pariah as well as its new leader. Naturally, their enemies around the globe are looking to capitalize upon the perceived family weakness and many of the Drood’s would like nothing better than to get rid of Eddie by any means possible. To protect and hopefully draw the family together, Eddie proposes a strike against the Loathly Ones, particularly nasty soul eaters from another dimension.

Eddie won’t be sending the family into battle totally unprotected; there is a new creature from an alternate dimension residing at the family hall, strange matter for lack of a better term. It wishes to be addressed as Ethel and has expressed an interest in assisting the Drood’s in their battle against a slew of nasty adversaries but after The Heart, Eddie has ample reason to be suspicious.

As the rapid fire paranormal suspense unfolds, Eddie draws on the skills of his witch lover Molly and a few trusted allies to bring the family together while trying to protect humanity from a menace worse then anything they could imagine. What emerges is a surprisingly moving tale of self-sacrifice and hope in the midst of chaos and loss. This excellent follow-up to The Man with the Golden Torc will leave readers applauding the reluctant hero and anxiously awaiting his further adventures.
