From Monsters and Critics.com Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Book Reviews The war between the honorable Black Dagger Brotherhood, sworn to protect the vampire race and their enemies, the Slayers better known as lessers escalates in book six of the series. Zsadist’s twin brother Phury has taken on the mantle of Primale of the Chosen, as such, it is his responsibility to be the strength of the race and sire a new generation. At the moment he can’t find it in him to silence the evil voice in his head much less carry out his duties and has a result, is discharged from the Brotherhood. As The Chosen, Cormia would serve as Phury’s First Mate yet after spending months in his world, they were no closer to completing the necessary ritual. Cormia finds herself increasingly drawn to Phury, and not just as Primale, she wants him all to herself although such thoughts go against everything she was taught. Lasher one of the trainees is seriously injured during a fight when Qhuinn steps in on John’s behalf. As one of the many unfortunate consequences of that fight, Qhuinn is removed from the training program, disowned by his family and beaten nearly to death by an honor guard. Wraith the King will be hard pressed to hold his people together in the face of brutal lesser attacks, keep Qhuinn alive and deal with Phury’s continued self-destruction as worry mounts over the health of Zsadist’s shellan Bella and the child she carries. In the interest of not giving away too many “spoilers”, this story synopsis is purposely on the vague side but don’t make the mistake of thinking this isn’t an absorbing action/romance tale and a worthy addition to the series. The multiple subplots seamlessly weave through the main storyline adding more depth and complexity then is typical of the paranormal romance genre. Ward has set the stage for more engrossing tales as Phury rocks the foundation of the Scribe Virgin and the Chosen while the Lessening Society gains strength with a frightening new leader at its head. © Copyright 2007 by monstersandcritics.com.
