In this new fantasy series, a young woman takes her own destiny by the hand-and the hilt. California girl Kim Murray is unsatisfied with grad school and restless in life. Modern men disappoint her, and she studies ballet and fencing because they remind her of older, more romantic times. She lives with her parents and her beloved but secretive aristocratic grandmother, who speaks only French and refuses ...more
Disenchanted Los Angeles graduate student Kim Murray has been growing increasingly restless and encouraged by her tightlipped grandmother, departs for Europe in hopes of learning about the family history. Beginning in Paris, Kim then moves on to Vienna where she begins having some real adventures including seeing a ghost and waking up on a train after having a drink with Alec, an apparently delusional man who claims to know her. In a case of mistaken identity, Alec mistook Kim for her missing cousin Ruli and wants Kim’s cooperation in locating the young woman. Kim quite sensibly escapes from the train triggering hopscotch adventures across Europe with Alec in hot pursuit until she arrives in the Carpathian Mountains where she discovers her grandmother was a princess.
Kim is a brash, bold and utterly irreverent character as she confronts a variety of situations outside the scope of her experience and frequently preservers. Fast pacing bolstered by a broad range of occasionally predictable twists and turns, this lighthearted fantasy with just a touch of romance and magic will leave readers wondering, what’s next for Kim.
