Second in the Dark Days series, this picks up immediately after Nightwalker with Mira, a six hundred year old vampire and master of fire having a minor identity crisis. Part of a triad responsible for preventing Naturi Rowe from gaining the upper hand, Mira works at coming to terms with who and what she is. Danaus, a human vampire hunter who was part of that triad, travels to the Nightwalker Coven in Venice with Mira where she will receive her next assignment. Although the triad succeeding in thwarting Naturi’s immediate plans, Mira knows the battle is far from over. There are traitors among the Nightwalkers and humans making it difficult to know whom to trust.
Betrayal and trust are central themes of this first rate, dark and gritty urban fantasy. Doubt preys on Mira even as she must rely on an her uneasy alliance with Danaus and for good reason as the vampire hunter is clearly holding some secrets close to his chest. Plenty of taut action, intrigue and a dash of chemistry make for a fine read that will leave fans anxiously awaiting the next installment.
