Witch detective Rachel Morgan has plenty of problems, not the least is her housemate Ivy, a living vampire who would love to carry their friendship to a different level. She is bound to a demon, her pixie business partner Jenks is struggling to cope with his wife’s illness and to cap things off, her vampire lover Kristen has been murdered. Tracking the murderer has become Rachel’s number one priority even as she begins finding evidence of a banshee wreaking havoc and eventually she learns there was more to Kristen’s death then a simple act of murder.
Harrison’s lackluster seventh of the Hollows series just doesn’t deliver the tension or strong storyline readers have come to expect. Rachel continues getting more foul tempered, Jenks has apparently lost his abilities to manipulate technology and major characters from previous books play minor bit parts at best. The buzz between Ivy and Rachel now borders on contrived, the ongoing training sessions between Rachel and the demon Al apparently aren’t as important as previously made out and some new elements are thrown in without any background to make them plausible. A very disappointing addition to what started out as a good urban fantasy series.
