A brief history of witches and the burning times sets the stage for the modern day fulfillment of an ancient prophesy when a girl child, “The One” would be born during the proper planetary alignments. Under a Full Blood Moon, she would come into her full powers, capable of uniting black and white witches.
After her mother’s brutal murder during a Mabon ritual, Amelia Pivens and her father moved to London in order to start a new life but stronger forces were at work. After the premature death of her husband, Amelia learns several uncomfortable truths about The Organization, a fundamentalist group devoted to wiping out practitioners of the Craft. With the death of her father, Amelia discovers a trusted family friend is not what he appears and with the Full Blood Moon fast approaching, members of The Organization are shadowing her every footstep. Calling upon a childhood friend for aid, Amelia must sort out friend from the many foes who want to destroy or manipulate her while coming to terms with possibly being the long prophesied “Ultimate Power”.
First in the Witches Moon series, this puts a slightly different spin on the witchcraft genre while maintaining a credible degree of believability. Strong character development and a host of antagonists keep the storyline moving at a steady pace. There are a number of minor editing errors that may give pause as they sometimes require rereading to understand exactly what is meant but don’t let that deter you from discovering Gryphon’s work.
