Professional wizard Harry Dresden finds his life seriously disrupted by Mab, Queen of the Unseelie fae, Winter Court of the Sidhe to whom he owes a couple of “small” favors. Gentleman Johnnie Marcone, kingpin of the Chicago underworld has gone missing and Mab wants Harry to locate him but naturally, anything to do with Marcone and the Unseelie is complicated. Additionally, Harry finds himself under increasing pressure from gruffs as in the Three Billy Goats Gruff, only these are no nursery rhymes, these gruffs serve as Titania’s enforcers. Titania, the Summer Queen and Mab’s rival wants Harry dead, too bad they’ll just have to take a number and wait in line. Damned coins, fantastic swords and Harry’s growing power including soulfire come together for a seat-of-the-pants good vs. evil battle for the Archive, a young girl who is so much more. Butcher’s tenth addition to the Dresden Files is a fast-paced action adventure featuring lines like “rush a miracle man, you get lousy miracles” borrowed from The Princess Bride to create a fun read that’s as entertaining as they come.
