Part of a very old matriarchal run family, Eddie Drood is something of an outcast. As much as the family would allow, Eddie turned his back on the tightly controlled inner sanctum and attempted to live life on his own terms while carrying out his assigned missions. As a member of the Drood family, Eddie carries on the tradition of protecting humanity from an assortment of nasty creatures that definitely go bump in the night. After a routine assignment results in an unintentional death, Eddie is summoned back to the family compound where he learns from one of his few allies that the family has been under attack, a point driven home when an assault is directed at the heart of the Drood family. Before long, Eddie finds himself under suspicion as a spy with the entire family engaged in bringing him down. Eddie’s only hope lies in tracking down the attacker before his family finds him, it’s a slim chance but it’s the only one he’s got and the trail leads right back to the heart of the Drood family.
This is an action packed paranormal mystery where the black sheep of the family makes good while deep betrayals shake the old régime to its core. Engaging, fully developed, if predictable characters carry the story with snappy dialog adding a touch of black humor. The conclusion leaves one suspecting that we have not heard the last of Eddie and his small band of cohorts.
