Thanks to her father, Kate Daniels packs a power she has worked all her life to hide. In a city populated by a full complement of paranormal creatures there is plenty of work for mercenaries, which is how Kate makes her living. While recovering from a particularly trying mission Kate’s guardian is found murdered along with a vampire. Kate takes the death personally and vows to track down the responsible party which dovetails nicely with the Order of Knights who hire her. All indications point to an extremely powerful magic forcing an uneasy alliance between Kate and the Beast Lord, leader of Atlanta’s shapechanging pack in an attempt to halt a series of killings that threatens to tear the city apart. The exciting showdown pits unspeakable horror against Kate and her handful of allies and the price of failure makes death look good.
Old Slavic mythology, upir, bonedragon, ghosts and guardians make for a fast moving, hack and slash though the city that leaves Kate shaken in the wake of a mounting body count. The strong storyline coupled with a complex alternative history that stays true to itself will have readers hoping for more to come from this feisty mercenary for hire.
