When the Texas superconducting supercollider blew up in 2015, the resulting quantum bomb blew a hole through space-time resulting in the discovery of five parallel realities. Each reality was found to be inhabited by a different race, humans occupied Otopian as Earth came to be known, elves hailed from Alfheim plus there was the demon, faery and Dead realms. Lila Black knows too well the damage that can be inflicted when the magic of Alfheim spills out on humans as she barely survived the last encounter that left her more machine then human. When Zal, vocalist of the wildly popular No Shows band begins receiving pointed death threats, Black’s cover as a bodyguard doesn’t hold long but as an undercover spy it’s up to her discover what’s really going on. It’s a difficult assignment as Black is still trying to adapt to all the new hardware, cope with personal demons and deal with the Game that has begun between her and Zal.
Worlds overlap in unexpected ways as Black must face her old adversary, travel to Alfheim, plus deal with demons and a power crazed Queen in this action-packed futuristic sci-fi that will appeal to techies and fantasy fans alike. Tension between the characters is credible even if the premise is a bit farfetched and it’s fun watching Black grow into her new self as she confronts magic in ways few other humans have managed in this first of the Quantum Gravity series.
