An American Private Eye mystery in the traditional style. Michael Kelly is an ex cop who is asked to investigate a brutal rape attack which took place eight years earlier.

His former boss, John Gibbons, had been paid to forget it. Now suffering a crisis of conscience; Gibbons asks Kelly to investigate. The next day, Gibbons is killed.  Kelly is determined to carry on the case - even though he is being framed for Gibbons murder.  Political corruption, the Mafia, and crooked police officers hamper his attempts to find answers.

Well written, and fast paced; this is a story which will appeal to anyone who likes Chandler style novels.  Very gritty and realistic in its portrayal of US life; it does not make for easy or comfortable reading.
