Wyrmeweald: Returner's Wealth (Wyrmeweald Trilogy) – Book Review
By Angela Youngman Jul 6, 2010, 14:18 GMT

This is the start of a new series of books from this duo, better known for their Edge Chronicles series. It is a slightly colder, less comical creation focusing on a land of wyrmes preyed on by two legs (humans) who want to use them for entertainment, money making, and the many products that can be made out of dead wyrmes.
Wyrmes are dragon like creatures, some of whom prey on each other. The wyrmes are constantly retreating further and further away. Yet some are left, ostracized by their fellows because they have chosen to bond with a human and become kin. Micah enters the Wyrmeweald intent on making his fortune, returning home to woo his sweetheart.
But things do not turn the way he had expected. He has to learn how to live in the Wyrmeweald, making choices about whether to become a villain or a hero. And what of the wyrmekin Thrace - has she lost her wyrme for good? Or will the bond return? This is very much a book setting the scene for future adventures in Wyrmeweald.
You get hints of future developments, future questions that must be answered. It makes enjoyable, but sometimes sad reading. The pace is fast, and the storyline well crafted. Fans of Stewart and Riddell will undoubtedly enjoy it, eagerly awaiting the next volume.
It will be interesting to see how the concept of Wyrmeweald develops.
