The Bloomsbury Guide to Creating Illustrated Children's Books - Book Review
By Angela Youngman Dec 1, 2009, 13:52 GMT
An absolute must for anyone interested in learning how to create illustrated children's books or develop book illustrating skills. It is superbly written.
A very practical book which acts a step by step guide giving advice and help on creating plots, characters and graphic design. It covers all types of genre including novelty and paperfold books. Help is given on writing for different age groups and there are lots of really helpful examples given at every stage.
The illustrations are fantastic, showing lots of different styles including book jackets. There are useful exercises to follow, including showing how to do techniques such as eraser and blade work, black and white drawing, blending, stretching paper. Overall a really excellent introduction to the subject.
