Anyone wanting to get boys reading should try this book. For pure adventure, excitement and adrenalin Death Ray is the perfect answer. It is the third in a series of WW2 adventures dealing with Norwegian teenagers Finn, Loki and Freya.
Having escaped from occupied Norway, they have joined the SOE, Special Operations Executive and are sent on their first mission into enemy territory. Or rather - Freya is officially sent; Loki and Finn fly her in and then decide to join her. But is the mission all that it seems?
Ostensibly they are out to destroy and steal a Nazi version of Radar with the help of a group of Resistance workers and British commandos. Then Freya is captured by the Gestapo and group leader Jacques goes missing and it becomes clear that the lives of Jacques father (a brilliant engineer) and his mother are under threat.
The climax is enthralling, a gripping must read. You have to continue turning the pages to find out more.
There are even a few pages at the end telling the reader the historic story of Operation Biting, a night in February 1942 when British paratroopers raided a German radar station and stole its operating unit.
