Beck Granger is just hoping for a nice holiday in Africa - until things go badly wrong. When his curiosity leads him to stumble onto a smuggling operation he ends up being forced to bail out of a plane over the Sahara Desert.
With nothing but a makeshift survival kit to help him, Beck and his friend Peter have to make their way cross the desert. Can they reach safety before the smugglers find them? Or will the desert get to them first? It is not an easy task especially they have no food or water.
Written by an expert in survival, the book is full of unexpected and sometimes gruesome tips in surviving a desert. Scorpions make tasty meals - but you have to find them first. The survival aspects do overshadow the smuggler plot line, and this does weaken the overall story.
For boys aged about 9 upwards wanting a non challenging adventure story, this will undoubtedly prove fascinating reading.
