Writer Tish Verdure is researching a book about a decades old murder. It is an investigation which scares someone with secrets to hide. The murder has haunted police lieutenant Jonathan Stride as it was his girlfriend's sister who was the victim.
As a teenage boy, Stride had come face to face with the man suspected of the murder - and let him escape. Now new evidence is appearing which raises questions about the conduct of the police at the time as well as that of Stride's wife.
And is Tish Verdure being totally honest - or is she hiding something herself? Can Tish and Stride face their fears as well as the long hidden truth? The answers come thick and fast in a climatic confrontation above the waters of Lake Superior.
Freemantle keeps you guessing until the end; which is always the mark of a good storyteller. Every word counts in this story, as the plot moves rapidly twisting and turning until the end. Definitely worth reading.
