Reality TV have a brilliant idea for mass market viewing - send five modern day children to relive conditions in the Second World War as evacuees on a farm. The only problem is that they have not counted on the children's own attitudes - especially when they discover that nothing is quite what it seems.
Although the children are aware they will filmed constantly and that ultimately only one will win the holiday prize; they are not prepared for what they encounter. Bedrooms are bugged with hidden microphones so that all their conversations are being monitored by Reality TV and put out in a continuous feed, along with visual filming elsewhere in the house on computer networks.
There is also a spy in the house - someone is not what they seem and has their own agenda to fill. The relationships between Zac, Izzy, Leo, Barney and Harriet change as the days progress as they all try to come to terms with the unexpected situations in which they find themselves.
The scenes where the children revolt make fascinating reading - the TV presenters do not get it all their own way! An entertaining and innovative story which will be enjoyed by most children. 4 stars
