Another instalment in the Inspector Cetin Ikmen series set in Turkey. Convicted killer and drug baron Yusuf Kaya has escaped from an Istanbul prison. Ikmen's investigation becomes harder when all those involved in the escape begin to disappear.
Then Ikmen's own troublesome son disappears. To make matters worse, Ikmen's colleague Mehmet Suleyman has found the faceless body of an American soldier floating in the Euphrates river. Soon it becomes clear that two crimes are linked - the only question is just how deep those links are.
Who is the American soldier? It is a tale of drugs, murder, blackmail and betrayal. A fair story overall, one which you can read at a steady pace. Personally, I do not think this is quite as good as some of Nadel's previous books. The story gets a bit confused at times, and my interest in the plot slipped.
