Based on a true story, it highlights the fear and cruelty which humankind sometimes adopts towards those who are different, It is a cold December in 1903 when a walker within the Jura mountains discovers a body, it has been horribly mutilated.
Villagers are horrified, as it brings old superstitions to the surface. Two more bodies are found in similar circumstances. Suspicion falls on a stable boy who is arrested, convicted and placed in psychiatric care.
Who is the mysterious white lady who visits the boy in his cell? Then in 1915, he vanishes. What happens to him? An intriguing twist to the tale awaits the reader. A very different novel, reminiscent in style of books of the period.
It is a short novel, which does not require a great deal of concentration to read.
