Horses are special as anyone who has ever been fortunate enough to spend time around them can attest to and that is the basis of this charming collection of equine art and old witticisms. The eight chapters encompass everything from the bond riders share with their mounts to simple horse sense, competition and more. Each page features the artwork of sixty artists from around the world.

Most of the sayings are long-standing chestnuts like John Adams’s observation that “Old minds are like old horses, you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order” though there are some more recent observations from the likes of Sir Winston Churchill who proclaimed, “The substitution of the internal combustion engine for the horse marked a very gloomy milestone in the progress of mankind.” The purpose of this book is to honor horses while providing a place for emerging equine artists to present their work and it succeeds beautifully. This would make an outstanding gift for any horse fancier and especially ‘tweens.
