Book Review: Christmas Around the World
By Sandy Amazeen Dec 8, 2007, 3:12 GMT

Fischer developed an appreciation for the many traditions surrounding Christmas at an early age from his Grandma Louise who set lovely tea parties, selected the “orphan tree” and recounted the origins and history of each ornament that graced its boughs. Years later those treasured Christmas memories blossomed into this charming book filled with enchanting pop-ups, pull outs and little booklets that explore the diverse myths that gave rise to Christmas and St Nicholas as we know it today. The origin of the manger in crèches, La Befana the Christmas witch, the Advent Calendar, bringing in the green and more are explored while touching on how the Holiday is celebrated worldwide. The fascinating history brought to life through the amazingly intricate pop-ups engineered by Bruce Foster make this a book to be appreciated by the entire family and may well generate some new traditions.
