Author of New York Times bestseller Selling the Invisible teams up with sales hotshot Christine Beckwith in this guide to selling yourself. The idea being that from childhood, we learn how to package and sell ourselves, first to get a new bike or an ice cream cone from our parents and later to get into the college of our choice or hired by a perspective boss. The better we learn how to package and present ourselves in a positive manner, the more successful we are likely to be. Engaging and user friendly, this guide lays out what and why people buy along with ways to put that knowledge to use. Pop icons such as Paul Simon are used to illustrate the lesson points. Beckwith guides the reader through self-examination that helps determine personal strengths as well as recognizing and addressing the weaknesses to create a more effective sales machine. Additionally, there is a wealth of sound, common sense information about phone courtesy, office etiquette, becoming a more effective writer and speaker. Although little of what is presented here is new, in an increasingly “me first” society this candid guide to selling yourself as a complete package should be read by everyone entering the job market.
