Say goodbye to the old and embrace the new, after 10 years the trusted 1996 edition is going out of print but don’t despair, the newly expanded 2006 Knitter’s Companion will fill the gap with even more “must have” information at your fingertips, think of it as a condensed knitters’ bible.
What makes the new release so much better then the first? For one thing, the spiral binding is now enclosed putting an end to snagged projects in the knitting bag while still lying open flat so you don’t have to struggle with flipping pages. New ways to splice, bind off and increase stitches plus an entire new chapter on adding nifty details like beads, cables and reinforced buttonholes to your knitting are carefully described with clear, two-toned drawings. More advanced techniques have been added including circular knitting, knitting backward and intarsia plus a section on how to correct the inevitable errors. This edition makes more use of color diagrams for better clarity along with 100 helpful color photographs of knit pieces.
The mandatory needle sizer and stitch gauge guide printed on heavy cardboard remains at its place of honor in the back making it instantly accessible. Knitters of all levels will appreciate the Craft Yarn Council of America guidelines for six standard categories based on yarn thickness, a simple yet reliable formula for interchanging yarns and yardage estimates for sweaters in standard weight yarns. The overall volume of “gotta know” information presented in such a handy format make this a truly indispensable tool so out with the old and in with the new.
