New John Sandford novel ‘predictable’

The AP notes that John Sandford’s latest novel, Phantom Prey, is “predictable’.

More specifically, the reviewer states: “After a while, though, we tire of our friend's ability to make everything look so easy. Then there's Sandford's habit of showing us his hole card a little too early in the hand. And we roll our eyes and wonder: Would Davenport really talk designer socks with the governor?”

Just to give you a bit of the blurbs from the book description: “John Sandford’s most recent Davenport novel, Invisible Prey, was hailed as “one of his best books in recent memory” (The Washington Post); “as fresh and entertaining as ever” (Chicago Sun-Times); and “rivetingly readable” (Richmond Times-Dispatch). But this time, he’s got something quite special in store.”

Reader reviews seem to be leaning more towards the negative with this one—there is even one reviewer who calls Phantom Prey “Sandford’s Worst Yet.”

And yet, if you are a fan, check it out for yourself. Published by Putnam Adult, at least you might enjoy a nice ride, and one could suppose you’re better off reading this than say, James Frey (yuck).
