Random House Take Legal Action Against P Diddy
By James Wray Feb 16, 2005, 13:16 GMT
Publisher Random House is taking legal action against hip-hop star Sean 'P Diddy' Combs over a book they claim was never written.
Random maintain they paid the star a $3000,000 advance for his autobiography in 1999 to be published via their Ballantine wing.
It seems combs signed an agreement back in 1998 and then partnered with writer Mikal Gilmore, whom the stars says he paid "325,000. Combs alleges that Gilmore then dropped out of the project without returning the money.
The star has since sued Gilmore, who filed for bankruptcy and the action was dropped in 2004.
In a statement today the publisher said: "We have seldom resorted to a legal course of action with our prospective authors who don't write the books we have contracted for, but Mr Combs has left us no choice."
