Tolkien Biographer Carpenter Dies at 58

Oxford/England: The BBC reports that Carpenter died on Tuesday from heart failure at his home in Oxford, England. He had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for some time. His Tolkien biography, for which he most well known, was published in 1977 and his biography of the poet W.H. Auden won the E.M. Forster Award in 1984. He also wrote books about composer Benjamin Britten and poet Ezra Pound.His biography of the Archbishop did not go down so well, with Runcie saying that he wished he had died before the book was published.

He was 58 and leaves behind a wife with two daughters.
