New York - A New York collector has paid a record 1 million dollars for a copy of a comic containing the first Superman stories, auctioneer Stephen Fischler reported on the website ComicConnect.com Tuesday.
The copy of Action Comics #1, which appeared on shop shelves in 1938 for 10 cents, is the most expensive comic ever sold. It had been bought by another collector 15 years ago for 150,000 dollars. Neither collector was identified by the website.
The comic, which Fischler says is one of only 100 still in existence, was apparently in a very good condition.
Its the Holy Grail of comic books,' he said.
