“Horse Soldiers: The Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan” is the latest by Doug Stanton.

USA Today notes: “Doug Stanton chronicles the spellbinding true-life story of the elite U.S. Army Special Forces and CIA operatives who secretly slipped into Taliban- and al-Qaeda-held territory to strike back.”

Another point the reviewer makes is: “The book reads more like a novel than a military history. Though readers should also know the reviewer thinks, “But like war itself, the cast is too large.” Too many characters, in other words.
