According to the AP, The House of Representatives passed a bill choosing Melville’s famed epic “Moby-Dick” as the epic novel pick for the state.
Moby-Dick is on my list to reread pile. The AP also states:
“That was a compromise after some lawmakers questioned Rep. Christopher Speranzo's proposal to dub Herman Melville's 1851 classic the "official book," given the state's rich literary history.”
For such a monumental work, the product description states:
“A masterpiece of storytelling and symbolic realism, this thrilling adventure and epic saga pits Ahab, a brooding sea captain, against the great white whale that crippled him. More than just the tale of a hair-raising voyage, Melville's riveting story passionately probes man's soul. A literary classic first published in 1851, Moby-Dick represents the ultimate human struggle.”
When Melville died, he was falling into obscurity, if you can believe it. In the end, quality always rises. But publishers and agents don’t realize this. They think it's all "subjective," which is a load of baloney.
