Edgar Sawtelle guy can now roll around in dollar bills
By Jessica Schneider Sep 19, 2008, 21:00 GMT
Oprah Winfrey has made her latest book club selection where she compares this writer to Steinbeck. And of Oprah says it, it must be true.
Anyway, she’s picked David Wroblewski's "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.” I could see this coming a mile away because the book has been the latest hit and it’s a chance to monopolize on the sales as much as possible by making it an Oprah pick. It will win the Pulitzer; mark my words.
"I think this book is right up there with the greatest American novels ever written, I really do," is what Winfrey said. And if Winfrey says it, it must be true.
What? Cut the cynicism? Yes, you’re right, I’ve not read it so I can’t say, but now that it’s got her stamp I’m not exactly rushing to buy it.
Though that won’t stop the two million soccer moms. Amazon reviews have been mixed. Some readers praise the book as Winfrey does, while others say it’s melodramatic and depressing. (He reworks Hamlet so if that tells you anything—it’s not ‘uplifting’ to say the least).
Many dog lovers have proclaimed their love for this book, though I’m a cat lover. Read the full article here and decide for yourself.
