It's one of those 'face it whether you find it or not'-moves.

For example: I'm committed to posting one 'article' a day to www.xomba.com/user/mythman Ideally, I would post a well-thought out article every morning---one which I would've had to start writing the minute I finished writing yesterday's.

Reality isn't ideal. This joke-book writer obviously just felt 'it was time to write a book,' went through the motions, the drafting, the publishing ... and that future furnace-fuel was the fruit of it: soul without the breath of God.
