New book from Bob Dylan’s old girlfriend

A Freewheelin' Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties by Suze Rotolo deals with just that.

NYT describes the book as, “In “A Freewheelin’ Time” Ms. Rotolo walks a delicate line between not wanting to exploit her relationship with Mr. Dylan but needing to address people’s understandable curiosity about it. “Feeding the beast” is how Ms. Rotolo describes the futility of trying to gratify the endless hunger of Dylan fanatics.”Publishers Weekly had negative things to say, “Rotolo doesn't give us a very freewheelin' memoir. She offers shallow, almost schoolgirl-like reflections on the man she loved and lived with for three years. In a dull and plodding manner, Rotolo provides no new insights into Dylan, claiming, as have so many, that he is mysterious and enigmatic. In an excerpt from one of her journals, she writes ambivalently that she believes in his genius and that he is an extraordinary writer, but that she doesn't think he's an honorable person.”Amazon has several reviews available, one from Salon that states, “Rotolo has written a perceptive, entertaining and often touching book about a remarkable era in recent American cultural history, about a way of living, of making art, that couldn't have happened at any other time or in any other place.”Broadway is the publisher, and visit the NYT article here, where you can not only read the review but also a chapter excerpt.

I just began to read this book and so far i love it. if you think it sounds school girlish when this all happened with them she was but a school girl. Can anyone ever say anything about Bob Dylan without trying to trivialize what a genius he is? I love Bob Dylan and Ms Rotolo loved and was loved by him. Lucky girl. I do not believe he has ever said he was a perfect being for none of us are. But his genius escaped me he just knew much and his songs did have something to say and they make one think.
