J.K. Rowling approves of commentaries and critiques of her work. I recently read a book by an Oxford graduate called “Prejudice in Harry Potter.” It’s the best thing I’ve ever read and I think J.K. would love this book because one of the things she herself mentioned during the court case is how Vander Ark failed to comment on the werewolf subplot and the prejudice themes. Apparently there is no substance or original thought in his work. He’s just lifting. She has stated her boundaries and I think as the creator of Harry Potter all fans should respect them. She is not some shark preventing anybody else from making any money off Harry Potter. As long as the work is mostly theirs and the ideas are original, she’s ok with that. And I think that’s ok.

Nobody ever mentions that Steven Vander Ark did the same thing in the 80s with Star Trek. He wrote and sold a encyclopedia of Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1. You could buy it at Star Trek Conventions.
