Lawyers will defend publishing house being sued by J.K. Rowling
By M&C News Dec 8, 2007, 13:14 GMT
The AP reports that a group of intellectual property lawyers from Stanford University will defend a small publishing house that is being sued by J.K. Rowling over the publication of “an unauthorized companion guide to her Harry Potter series,” the article notes.
The publisher is RDR books, and the title of the book they plan to release is called The Harry Potter Lexicon. The book was scheduled for release this fall, but Rowling’s lawsuit has of course has stopped the publication momentarily, according to the article.
Rowling’s argument is that their book “borrows too heavily” from Rowling’s book and so therefore crosses the line into copyright and trademark infringement.
The article states that the information RDR would be using is that which is based on an internet fansite.

I still get a kick out of the fact that this publisher didnt even have a copyright lawyer in their rolodex. honestly, number one rule of being a publisher, know the copyright laws. of course like 60% of the books published by RDR are written by the ceo of RDR, so clearly he started the publishing house because he couldnt get his books published elsewhere *and if you ever tried to sit down a read his books, you can see why, thats why you need a editor who is not yourself to edit your book, you are biased about your own works*
