2 cookbooks reveal ‘uncomfortable’ similarities

In a recent article in the NYT, Jessica Seinfeld, who is married to Jerry Seinfeld and also the author of Deceptively Delicious, a cookbook that Oprah Winfrey promoted on her show—has undergone scrutiny for her book.
It turns out that another book called The Sneaky Chef by non-celebrity Missy Chase Lapine shares many of the similarities in the two books. The Sneaky Chef was published in April and according to the NYT article, “she too also suggests that parents purée healthy foods like spinach and sweet potatoes and hide them in childhood favorites like macaroni and cheese or brownies.”
“Honestly I can’t speculate, and I’m not going to accuse anyone of anything,” Ms. Lapine said. “I suppose it’s possible it’s a coincidence,” as quoted in the NYT.
The article states that some of the similarities are exact, such as spinach in brownies, avocado in chocolate pudding and sweet potato in grilled cheese sandwiches. All these similarities appear in Seinfeld’s book, the NYT notes.
As of yet, there is no legal action at this time, but the publicity will certainly help sales for The Sneaky Chef.
