Fred and his daughter Kim Goldman appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, which aired yesterday. Originally Winfrey stated that she wanted to have Denise Brown also on the same stage as the Goldmans, but Brown refused to share a stage with them.
Instead Winfrey had to interview her separately, where Brown stated that she thought the Goldmans were hypocrites for wanting to publish O.J. Simpson’s book, If I Did It. The book tells a grisly account of what O.J. would have done had he really done the murders. (The family however believes he did do them).
In the book, O.J. paints a nasty picture of Nicole Brown, calling her a “slut” and “drug addict”. Winfrey stated she was disgusted by the book and had no intention of reading it or buying it.
The Goldmans revealed on her show that they will only be receiving 17 cents per book sale, meaning they would have to sell a million books before making $170,000.
Winfrey argued that because this is America and there is the freedom of speech, she did not think there should be censorship.
Yet choosing not to publish a book one has the rights to is not censorship. According to the AP, the book is number 52 on Amazon. For more information, visit the AP article that discusses this matter in more detail.
