Courtney Thorne-Smith, the actress who starred on Ally McBeal and Melrose Place, now has a new novel coming out this September, called Outside In.
The story, soap operatic in approach is about an actress who is struggling with a bad marriage, issues with her weight, the whole shallow Hollywood thing. In an interview with the AP, Thorne-Smith insists that the novel is not autobiographical.
The lead character is a woman named Kate who lands a job on a soap opera called Generations, and then her hubby cheats on her with a nasty diva type named Sapphire Rose.
Publisher’s Weekly has given this mediocre reviews. The story line has been referred to as “thin” as well as the story being “prone to the classically shallow emotional highs and lows associated with soap operas.”
“The characters…seldom move beyond their stereotypical origins. A typical Hollywood ending caps the story, but getting there is not nearly as much fun as it should be,” Publisher’s Weekly states.
I think I’ll pass on this one. The novel finishes at 288 pages.
